The individual will have the opportunity to work as a team member and lead on the design and construction of a variety of transportation projects. Successful candidates shall have strong bridge design experience, as well as knowledge of related disciplines including civil/highway, maintenance and protection of traffic, utilities, hydraulics, geotechnical, and right-of-way requirements.  The ideal candidate will have experience in the preparation of final contract plans, specifications, and estimates for MassDOT bridge projects.

General Responsibilities:
  • Develop and lead the development of design drawings, specifications, reports, and other project deliverables while working with a multi-discipline engineering team
  • Demonstrate a range of technical capabilities with experience in bridge design, development of contract documents (plans, and specifications), and knowledge of various methods of bridge and highway construction
  • Exhibit a high degree of oral and written communication skills and be able to develop non-standard solutions
  • Ensure that production of plans, specifications, reports, and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements
  • Coordinate with other design disciplines and consultants
  • Plan, schedule, coordinate, and oversee the work of junior level staff or technicians as required
  • Maintain positive relationships with clients and serve as a representative at meetings and presentations

Education/Experience/Skills/Knowledge:
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in Massachusetts is required
  • Candidate must have a BS degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience with increasing responsibilities on structural bridge and roadway projects
  • Experience on MassDOT projects implementing guidelines of the MassDOT LRFD Bridge Manual is required
  • Experience implementing procedures of the MassDOT Project Development & Design Guide and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices including Massachusetts amendments is desired
  • Knowledge of CADD software including AutoCAD Civil 3D is desired
  • Experience with AASHTOWare Bridge Design or similar software required
  • Ability to independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques and criteria using sound judgment
  • The ideal candidate must demonstrate excellent technical and structural engineering skills commensurate with experience level
